With new jobs slowing down in Aiken, Adam Kays, headed east and found a job working with product development in Blythewood.

He rented a house on Sunnyside Drive in Cayce for a while, but then Kays’ attraction shifted to The Avenues, and he began searching for a house big enough for his dog, Marley, a boxer, to stretch in.

Kays’ search ended last November when he settled into a three-bedroom, 1 1/2- bath house in the 800 block of Karlaney Avenue in The Avenues. The one-story home built in 1962 has 1,800 square feet.

The 31-year-old said it was where he wanted to be all along: “The Avenues are the nicer part of Cayce and West Columbia.”

With attractions like the Three Rivers Greenway and USC’s Carolina Stadium nearby, it’s more convenient to walk Marley on the riverwalk and attend sports events, he said.
